Places to See While in St. John

os snorkel adventure dockedIf you are on a Caribbean cruise vacation, odds are good that you’ll be able to experience the incredible island of St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The team at Ocean Surfari has conducted some research and came up with a couple of places to see when vacationing in St. John:

Annaberg Sugar Plantation Ruins

Enjoy a bit of island history at one of St. John’s best-preserved sugar plantation ruins. Go check out the Annaberg Sugar Plantation Ruins located on the shore of St. John.

There you’ll learn history that dates back into the 1700s. Learn how sugar and rum were made and a bit of sad history regarding island slavery. The one-quarter of an acre ruin offers a hiking trail running through the slave cabin ruins, windmill, and sugarcane factory.

One great thing about the ruins is that they’ll overlook the offshore waters, offering breathtaking views. Though not mandatory, a guided trip provides very valuable insider information.

It is possible to enjoy a do-it-yourself tour of the place or you can combine it with an island safari with a tour operator.

Take a Coral Bay Tour

Coral Bay is a quiet, small village on the S. Eastern Coast of the island of St. John. The sleepy town is among the island’s best-kept secrets. It’s a beloved place by many US expats that features a vibrant, friendly, charming community atmosphere that isn’t seen anywhere else within the USVI. Coral Bay has quaint areas for eating and shopping.

One of the hottest landmarks in Coral Bay is the Emmaus Moravian Church. It is currently registered by the U.S. as a historical place of interest. Constructed in the 17th century, the church bears a rather interesting and dark history. You simply need to go there to learn more.

Also, Coral Bay is the place you’ll find Hansen Bay Beach and Salt Pond Bay. Both are best for relaxing and snorkeling. Nature enthusiasts will adore touring the Hurricane Hole mangrove. This part of the island was heavily hit by hurricanes Maria and Irma but is rapidly recovering. It is just a 30-minute cruise from Cruz Bay.

Ocean Surfari offers several St. John boat excursion packages. Get in touch with us today at (340) 202-0444 or email [email protected].
