Wendy Blackburn is a free-spirited soul who has sailed to Bora Bora, reads several books at a time, lists people-watching as a favorite pastime and is an unashamed, die-hard Barry Manilow fan. She is also a hard-working business owner and absolutely loves the fact that she and her husband Marc run one of the most successful charter fishing and snorkel excursion companies in the Virgin Islands.
Couple this with the fact that Ocean Surfari apparel has become the “must have” gear for tourists visiting the USVI. In fact, Wendy sees about 3,000 shirts a month flying off her shelves. So, you can see why she says that her gravestone will have to read, “She did what she loved, and she loved what she did.” Wendy’s offbeat sense of humor shows through in everything she does. She says her fondest memory is when she graduated high school and her three siblings still had to do a first day back at school … while she did not. “That was the best,” she says with a giggle, “I loved it.”
Wendy says her grandmother was the greatest influence in her life. “She gave me the desire to read at a young age and I have never stopped.” Blessed with a bubbly personality and a fun outlook on life, Wendy says that Janeane Garofalo would have to star in the movie about her life … and what a life it is. “Where else could your dress code be a bathing suit and cover up,” says Wendy. “I love our customers, our staff and this beautiful place we get to call home.”
